Ricorre infatti l'anniversario di uno dei più importanti eventi della storia del programma spaziale russo, e più in generale dell'astronomia internazionale. In questo giorno nel 1957, dal cosmodromo di Baikonur, in Kazakistan, ebbe luogo il lancio del primo satellite artificiale mandato in orbita intorno alla Terra.
